Training and Development Opportunities

FortisAlberta is committed to supporting our employees throughout their careers through ongoing training and development.

Mental Health, Violence in the Workplace, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Training

FortisAlberta is committed to sustaining a safe, inclusive workplace where everyone is empowered to be their authentic selves and produce their best work. We offer a number of courses including:

  • The Working Mind © training to advance the conversation on supporting mental health
  • Violence in the Workplace and Domestic Violence training in partnership with the Alberta Council of Women's Shelters, where employees can also volunteer to be part of FortisAlberta’s Violence Prevention Support Team (VPST)
  • Inclusive Leadership and anti-racism training
  • A three (3) day FortisAlberta Leadership Academy (FABLA) to support our leaders

Internal Job Assignments

FortisAlberta employees have the opportunity to apply for temporary internal job assignments (acting assignments) that allow them to take on new roles and responsibilities within a different department for up to 12 months. At the end of these assignments, employees bring their new skills and knowledge back to their teams. Acting assignments are one way FortisAlberta supports the growth of our employees and ensures our teams are well-rounded and knowledgeable about different aspects of our business operations.

Customer Care Training

FortisAlberta’s Customer Service team is based in Airdrie, Alberta and welcomes a number of new Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) each year. To prepare them, new CSRs receive six (6) weeks of full-time paid training to ensure our team can quickly and effectively meet the needs of our customers. Our trainers use a combination of online and in-person techniques and resources to prepare our CSRs.
