Engineering
FortisAlberta’s Engineering teams are the technical experts who plan and develop electrical distribution utility systems. They create, update, and maintain documentation, standards and guidelines, address power quality issues, develop scopes of work, technical specifications and cost estimates. In addition to hiring experienced Professional Engineers, FortisAlberta welcomes several new bachelor of electrical engineering graduates into our Engineer-in-Training (EIT) rotation program every year, where they hone their skills in our SCADA & Telecommunications, Distribution Standards, Power Quality, Protection & Controls, DER & Operational Planning, and Distribution Load Planning teams.
If you are a self-motivated technical expert able to articulate your expertise in a persuasive and organized manner, and have exceptional attention to detail and a four-year bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, our Engineering department might be an excellent place for you to continue your career.
Design Specialist
Our Design Specialist/Technologists are responsible for designing or applying a standard design to support the construction of electrical distribution projects. They confirm project scope, estimate inputs, perform field checks and hazard assessments, identify environmental concerns, and coordinate the construction, installation, and commissioning of electrical distribution infrastructure. These positions require a two-year diploma in electrical engineering technology and work closely with FortisAlberta’s customers and Power Line Technicians to build and maintain Alberta’s electrical distribution infrastructure.
If you are meticulous in your approach, have excellent customer service and organization skills, and have a two year diploma in electrical engineering technology, our Central Projects groups in Sherwood Park or Airdrie might be a good place for you to apply your skills.
