FortisAlberta is looking for an AMI System Technologist who is eager to build their experience working with data, technology, and utility systems. 

In this role, you’ll help ensure our metering systems are reliable and accurate by analyzing data, troubleshooting issues, and supporting system improvements. You’ll work closely with experienced team members across the organization and gain hands‑on exposure to how data flows through our systems to support billing and operations.

Job Description:
•    Analyze large datasets to evaluate AMI system performance and support lifecycle planning, compliance programs, and operational improvements.
•    Monitor system performance daily and investigate issues such as data gaps, communication failures, tampering, or anomalies.
•    Interpret system metrics and geospatial data to optimize communication technologies and ensure accurate data transmission.
•    Develop and maintain AMI system standards, operating procedures, and testing protocols.
•    Support system enhancements, pilot projects, and non‑standard initiatives through analysis and technical expertise.
•    Model and test system processes, define requirements, and implement solutions to improve performance and data quality.
•    Repair, maintain, and validate AMI system components, including meters and testing equipment.
•    Provide technical support, training, and guidance to internal stakeholders and support cross‑functional collaboration.

 

Qualifications:
•    Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Geomatics, or a related field.
•    Strong analytical skills with experience working with large datasets and identifying trends or system issues.
•    Knowledge of power systems, metering principles, and communication technologies.
•    Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently and proactively resolve issues.
•    Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
•    Proficiency with data analysis tools and Microsoft Office applications, including advanced spreadsheet use.

 

Important:
•    1 year term position.
•    Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
•    Based out of our Acheson location.
•    Some travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
•    Safety‑sensitive position requiring pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing.
•    Additional testing may be required.
