DESCRIPTION: 
Under the direction of the Manager, Fleet Services, the Heavy Fleet Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the maintenance of a fleet of over 400 vehicles and equipment primarily supporting the operation, maintenance, and construction of the electrical distribution system.  This includes ensuring that fleet maintenance programs are delivered on budget and on time, while maintaining safety standards and ensuring quality and continuous service to our customers.  This role will coordinate the work of multiple vendors and contractor technicians who perform the inspection and maintenance of medium to heavy duty equipment fleets.  In addition, this role performs quality inspections and safety audits on equipment, provides input into equipment maintenance projects and programs and provides coaching, training and guidance to team members.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Address and resolve daily customer inquiries and concerns related to fleet maintenance.
  • Coordinate and secure routine maintenance and repair services for all fleet vehicles and equipment assigned or operating in the area.
  • Schedule team members, equipment and contractors in the repair facility. 
  • Work with Heavy Equipment Technicians on vehicles and equipment and assist with repairs when required. 
  • Monitor and report on extensive repairs and collaborate with the leadership team on maintenance strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Standards Specialist regarding operational and design specifications.
  • Work with new and existing vendors on best pricing for maintenance and parts.
  • Verify the accuracy and validity of invoices for contracted work and parts procured. 
  • Ensure fleet inventory electronic documents are maintained and accurate.
  • Provide recommendations based on maintenance standards, codes, and regulations for repair of vehicles and compliance inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations regarding fleet operations and vehicle safety.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols, conduct regular vehicle audits and ensure required training for mechanics.
  • Maintain working relationships and collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Field Operations, Forestry, and Travelling crews to ensure fleet resources are aligned with operational needs.
  • Provide guidance and support to operators, addressing any issues related to vehicle operation or maintenance.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the fleet team in the repair facility and fleet updates and training on vehicle and equipment operation to field personnel.   
  • Maintain a safe worksite; this includes completing injury prevention plans, correcting unsafe conditions, reporting incidents, and supporting incident investigations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician - Heavy duty or Truck and Transport plus five (5) years’ related experience is required.
  • Valid class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and repair of mechanical, structural, electrical, and hydraulic systems for automotive, heavy duty, and utility vehicles and equipment
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Motor Vehicle Legislation
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems related to radial boom diggers and aerial devices
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and SAP.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a leadership role is an asset.
  • Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.

 

Special Conditions: 

  • All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.  
  • Some overnight travel may be required.  
  • This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Physical capable of lifting heavy objects up to 35kg.
