DESCRIPTION:  

Under the general direction of the Senior Lead SCADA Engineer, the SCADA Engineer will be responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the Distribution SCADA System, Distribution Automation System (DA), Distribution Voltage Management System (DVM) and the Outage Management System’s (OMS) ICCP connection that will be utilized within the FortisAlberta Control Centre.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Administer and maintain the SCADA Database.
•    Design, develop and maintain various SCADA Displays.
•    Design, develop and maintain database and display templates for specific Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) such as electronic reclosers and automated switches.
•    Design, develop, test, and maintain Distribution Automation (DA) and source transfer schemes.
•    Analyze and interpret historical data to investigate IED and DA mis-operations.
•    Develop and support technical training programs on the SCADA and DA systems for Internal Stakeholders, such as Engineers, Engineering Technologists, System Operators.
•    Develop and maintain documentation for the operation of the SCADA and DA systems.
•    Work with the Protection & Control team when introducing new IEDs and Remote Terminal Unit (RTUs) to develop the SCADA and DA requirements.
•    Perform SCADA checks during the commissioning stage of IEDs field installations.
•    Integrate with other 3rd party SCADA systems via Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP) for the purposes of data sharing.
•    Administer and maintain the OMS ICCP connection with the SCADA system.
•    Assist in troubleshooting SCADA and DA communication systems.
•    Special projects and other duties, as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Demonstrated abilities in graphical software, database management, and programming or script writing.
•    Proficient in DNP 3.0 application and programming and in IED and RTU configuration and programming.
•    Knowledge of IEC 60870 and 61850.
•    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
•    Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
•    Demonstrated abilities in technical writing.
•    Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and evaluating possible solutions.
•    Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple and diverse projects concurrently.
•    Highly motivated with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
•    Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications.
•    Knowledge of Distribution Power Systems and Protective Relaying.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
•    Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
•    Current registration or eligible for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
•    Those registered as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA with 3 years of electric distribution system engineering experience may also be considered.
•    Previous experience using technical and graphical software is an asset.
