FortisAlberta is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Engineering Student to support our Distribution Planning team. 

In this role, you will gain practical experience with power system modelling, load flow analysis, and distribution system assessment. You will work closely with engineers to ensure the accuracy of system data, evaluate network performance, and make recommendations that contribute to safe, reliable service for customers and communities. 

 

This position is ideal for a student who enjoys technical problem solving, values safety, and thrives in both independent and team‑based environments!

 

Job Description:
•    Ensure accuracy and data integrity within FortisAlberta’s electrical load flow simulation software.
•    Build base‑case system models and perform load flow analysis using engineering modelling tools.
•    Produce 25 kV distribution feeder assessments and recommend system improvements based on identified issues.
•    Support special projects and complete additional duties as required.

 

Qualifications:
•    Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering degree program and returning to full‑time studies.
•    Strong communication and listening skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
•    Readiness to collaborate within a dynamic team environment.
•    Interest in leveraging technology and applying forward‑thinking approaches.
•    Strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
•    High attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.

 

Important:
•    Temporary student role.
•    Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
•    Based out of our Airdrie Kingsview location. 
•    All successful candidates will be subject to an education verification, criminal background check and must provide references. 
•    Additional testing may be required.
