DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Senior Manager AMI Systems, the Sr AMI Project Leader is responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiatives, including large-scale meter deployments, system integrations, and operational transformation. This role ensures alignment with corporate strategy, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder expectations while managing cross-functional teams, vendors, and budgets. The role is required to independently make decisions that will influence the project’s activities and direction, such as assigning and reviewing project tasks, managing resources within the scope of the project (including team members), mitigating risks, resolving issues and acting as the Stakeholder’s main point of contact for the project. The Sr AMI Project Leader will coach, mentor, and direct the work of those on the project, and provide feedback regarding performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of the full AMI project lifecycle, including meter deployment, network infrastructure, data systems integration, and customer outreach.
- Make decisions that will define project scope (including staffing scope), goals, policies and deliverables for the large-scale AMI project, and any related IT projects or programs that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
- Serve as the primary liaison with the AMI technology vendor, overseeing contract performance, deliverables, schedules, and issue resolution.
- Lead, coach, and manage internal and contract project resources taking accountability for their assigned work and delivering on project goals successfully.
- Conduct project lessons learned throughout the life of the project and provide recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
- Lead resource capacity planning and assess the need for additional resources to support successful project delivery.
- Manage third-party installation vendors and internal field crews to ensure seamless and coordinated meter exchanges across the territory.
- Collaborate with Managers and Project Leaders to make crucial decisions that will impact the business when necessary
- Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocations, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and report on key project metrics (e.g., installation rates, system uptime, integration status), ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels.
- Collaborate across internal departments (engineering, operations, IT, customer service, and regulatory affairs) to align activities and manage interdependencies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, safety requirements, data privacy policies, and utility standards.
- Lead regular project meetings, vendor check-ins, and stakeholder briefings to maintain alignment and resolve emerging issues.
- Support system testing, cutover planning, and integration with key enterprise systems such as MDMS, OMS, CIS, and GIS.
- Develop and execute change management, communication, and training plans for internal teams and impacted customers.
- Drive continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle to optimize delivery and maximize value.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage complex vendor relationships, including performance oversight, issue escalation, and contract management.
- Demonstrated skill with large-scale field operations and coordinating both internal and contracted labor.
- Proficiency using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Smartsheet), reporting systems, and methodologies (e.g., PMBOK, Agile).
- Well-versed in accounting practices as they relate to project delivery
- Effective organizational and time management skills to successfully manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings
- Proven ability to work and lead within a team environment; this includes effective leadership, coaching, facilitation, mentoring, and team building skills.
- Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to build effective partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes

- Skilled in the use of Microsoft SharePoint MS SharePoint On line, SAP for Financials, MS Teams, and Office 365
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
- 7 to 10 years of project management experience, with 5+ years leading large-scale utility, infrastructure, or technology deployment projects.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is required.
- Proven experience managing large-scale, multi-vendor utility projects is required.
- Direct experience with AMI or Smart Grid projects, including metering hardware, RF mesh or LTE networks, and system integration would be an asset.
- Familiarity with electric utility systems such as Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), Customer Information Systems (CIS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) would be an asset.
- Understanding of utility regulatory environments, customer engagement strategies, and data governance principles would be an asset.
