DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of Director Internal Audit, Risk and Sustainability Governance and reporting to Sr Advisor, Sustainability Governance and Risk Management, the Advisor, Sustainability Governance and Risk Management will support FortisAlberta’s sustainability governance and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities. This position is essential for ensuring that FortisAlberta upholds the highest standards of sustainability governance and risk management practices.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Sustainability Governance
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to support the development of the Sustainability reporting framework and governance practices.
    • Assist in validating and ensuring the accuracy of internal and external sustainability data.
    • Support the documentation of Internal Controls over Sustainability Reporting (ICSR) processes and key controls.
    • Help integrate sustainability principles and reporting practices across teams.
    • Participate in Sustainability reporting and performance initiatives within the company.
  • Enterprise Risk Management
    • Support the development and maintenance of risk register, ensuring it reflects current risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights on emerging risks and best practices in risk management.
    • Assist in updating enterprise risk management training materials and support training sessions.
    • Help identify and assess risk mitigation activities to enhance enterprise risk management.
    • Assist in monitoring compliance with internal risk management policies and external regulations, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Assist in developing risk-related report.
  • General
    • Stay informed about emerging trends and innovations in sustainability and risk management, sharing relevant insights with the team.
    • Assist with business development activities and presentations related to sustainability and ERM as needed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to adapt to changing and dynamic environments while focusing on practical solutions.
  • Basic understanding of governance and risk management principles, with a willingness to learn applicable standards, tools, and methods.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and ERM reporting frameworks, protocols, and standards, along with the ability to apply them in relevant contexts.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences in both formal and informal settings.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in facilitating discussions to build consensus and develop strategies and recommendations.
  • Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and negotiation skills to help resolve issues and evaluate potential solutions and risks, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Results-driven mindset, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to collect, analyze, and interpret information from various sources, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic familiarity with SAP; experience with data analytics is a plus.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Commerce, Finance, Environmental Sciences or related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; an equivalent combination of education, relevant experience and professional qualifications maybe considered.
  • Experience in sustainability and/or IT audit would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
  • Experience in working in operations with an understanding of risk within the electrical utility industry would be valued.
