DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Compliance and Privacy Officer, the Compliance and Regulatory Advisor is responsible for developing and maintaining the compliance and ethics frameworks to manage adherence to Company, legal and regulatory requirements. The position will be responsible for understanding corporate compliance, implementing mitigation strategies, maintaining compliance registries, and supporting and maintaining the compliance and privacy programs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
Regulatory:
- Support and maintain the compliance activities for the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) Code of Conduct and the Inter-Affiliate Code of Conduct Regulations.
- Prepare and manage applicable regulatory compliance filings for the Codes of Conduct.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory compliance matters.
- Develop and distribute quarterly meeting materials for the Regulatory Codes of Conduct Committees.
- Manage and review confidential documentation necessary to ensure that FortisAlberta meets compliance and/or audit requirements as set forth by legal, regulatory or contractual obligations.
- Monitor and interpret applicable regulatory changes and provide recommendations to maintain and/or improve the compliance program.
Compliance:
- Support and maintain the Policy Management Framework, Program and Repository to ensure effectiveness and reliability.
- Develop, deliver and ensure completion of effective compliance training, presentations, and education programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and SOX requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of a compliance monitoring program using data analytics to manage risks.
- Maintain knowledge of the Corporate Compliance Program and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Stay informed about the latest trends and developments in compliance, privacy, and sustainability-related legislation, as well as industry best practices and company policies. Share insights with the team to ensure FortisAlberta remains up-to-date with regulatory requirements
General:
- Provide initial business guidance and advise on confidential compliance and privacy-related issues brought forward by the business and escalate as required.
- Create and sustain a comprehensive compliance procedural reference library to guarantee business continuity.
- Analyze activities and trends to identify staff training and education needs.
- Provide technical writing expertise for internal and external reporting as required.
- Conduct and support risk assessment initiatives to identify compliance risk areas.
- Prepare regular and ad-hoc management and Board reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable compliance and privacy legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of compliance strategy and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, research, evaluate and interpret compliance issues.
- Proven ability to apply judgment, strategic and innovative thinking in decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement in the handling of confidential, personal and/or sensitive information.
- Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment.
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to create and deliver presentations and training programs tailored to various audience types.
- Exhibits high degree of professionalism.
- Ability to gain cooperation from others to obtain and share information and accomplish goals.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized program plus a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Previous compliance or regulatory experience highly preferred.
- Previous experience in a utility or transmission company environment preferred.
