DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic & Regulatory Affairs, General Counsel, the Corporate Governance Coordinator will be responsible for providing senior level administrative, legal and governance support to FortisAlberta’s Corporate Secretariat. In addition to managing normal course corporate compliance requirements (e.g., preparing and filing annual returns), the accountabilities of this role will also include directly contributing to the creation, review and editing of governance-related documents and Board materials and addressing the logistics requirements of quarterly Board and Committee meetings.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
• Act as a Paralegal, providing administrative, legal, and corporate governance support.
• Prepare and critically review corporate documents under the direction of the Vice President, Regulatory & Strategic Affairs, General Counsel, including Board of Directors and Committee materials, disclosure and other reporting documents, management reports and correspondence.
• Manage the handling of confidential business information and other highly sensitive material.
• Work with interdisciplinary teams to gather and synthesize complex information forming the basis of reports and other updates provided to FortisAlberta’s Board of Directors.
• Lead and/or participate in special projects and other duties, as assigned.

• Skilled in the proper handling of confidential information, including storage and controlled dissemination.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Effective team building skills with the ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
• Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement in processes and practices.
• Solid analytical skills enabling you to identify issues and evaluate possible resolutions.
• Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in using Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with SAP will be considered an asset.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Degree or Diploma in Legal Administration, Business or other related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience, including exposure to supporting senior executive, corporate secretary or as a Paralegal; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Prior experience with the preparation and management of documentation for use by governance boards is required and familiarity with Diligent Boards ® software is preferred.
