Job Description:
- Support the development of electricity policy positions and recommendations aligned with FortisAlberta’s corporate strategy, values, and risk profile.
- Translate complex regulatory, technical, and market information into clear, executive‑level briefing notes, position papers, submissions, correspondence, and presentations.
- Proactively monitor Alberta’s policy and regulatory landscape and provide concise updates with insights and recommended positioning.
- Work closely with internal cross‑functional groups to understand business impacts of policy and regulatory changes and identify opportunities and risks.
- Provide strategic communications and narrative framing advice to support advocacy efforts and external positioning.
- Identify policy‑related communication risks and recommend mitigation strategies to protect FortisAlberta’s reputation.
- Build and maintain effective working‑level relationships with government representatives, regulators, system operators, and industry associations.
- Prepare speaking points, key messages, question‑and‑answer documents, and presentation materials for executives and senior leaders.
- Act as a policy communications resource for internal stakeholders, providing clear, plain‑language explanations of complex issues.
- Ensure all policy and executive materials meet high editorial standards, reflect FortisAlberta’s positions, and are handled with appropriate confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience in a regulatory, policy, or public affairs environment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience preparing executive‑ready and public‑facing materials.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into concise, accurate narratives.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across organizations through sound judgment and political awareness.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- High degree of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrated business acumen and experience supporting strategic initiatives.
- Understanding of Alberta’s electricity industry and regulatory environment is considered a strong asset.
Important:
- Permanent, full-time role.
- Located at our Calgary office on 17th ave.
- Position will be moving to our Airdrie location in 2027.
- Monday – Friday schedule.
- Hybrid role with 2 days per week working from home once trained.
