FortisAlberta is seeking a motivated and detail‑driven Financial Accountant to support high‑quality financial reporting and analysis.

In this role, you will prepare financial statements, contribute to Management’s Discussion and Analysis, support audits, and help strengthen internal controls and financial processes.

Job Description

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and reviews.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
  • Research, document, and implement new accounting standards.
  • Assist in designing, reviewing, and evaluating internal controls and financial reporting processes.
  • Identify financial process improvement opportunities and support workflow automation solutions.
  • Provide input to regulatory applications and interpret regulatory decisions that affect financial reporting.
  • Conduct research and analysis on accounting and financial topics.
  • Support compliance with United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, taxation requirements, and securities regulations.

 

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or Finance, plus at least five years of accounting experience.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • Minimum three years preparing financial statements under International Financial Reporting Standards or United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, or three years reporting experience with a public entity.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present financial information clearly.
  • Proven relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong judgment and analytical skills for evaluating accounting treatments and recommending solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and efficient financial processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets and productivity tools; experience with enterprise systems or workflow platforms considered an asset.

 

Important Information

  • Permanent, full-time role.
  • Located at our Calgary office on 17th ave.
  • Position will be moving to our Airdrie location in 2027.
  • Monday – Friday schedule.
  • Hybrid role, on average 2 days work from home per week.
  • Union role, successful external applicant must be willing to join UUWA upon successful hire.
