DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of the Director Architecture & Infrastructure, the IT Architecture Manager will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, definition, and planning of the IT Architecture and determining and implementing long and short-term strategies that support corporate goals. The position works with IT Operations Managers, business stakeholders, and IT project teams to analyze the existing architectural state, define processes, systems and technology roadmaps. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Design and implement scalable, integrated solutions across ADMS, OMS, SCADA, GIS, DMS and DERMS.
  • Establish long-term strategies for systems to meet business needs, including developing and maintaining architecture models, roadmaps and technical strategies.
  • Handle confidential planning and strategy documents, and complete sensitive reviews of confidential business area data, including HR, to ensure solution alignment with business requirements.
  • Validate business, organizational and operational requirements; determine the available options, and advise on the technical direction for the system.
  • Analyze current architectural states and provide expert technical advice on specific projects or process transformations from the “proof of concept” stage through to full business operational implementation.  
  • Collaborate with the Architecture team to create and guide the IT lifecycle plans for business process changes and associated system and application changes.
  • Implement and ensure the alignment of architectural standards and guidelines related to business direction, design patterns and practices and technology across IT.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to projects and engage stakeholders to ensure direction and technology meet business needs and are aligned within our architecture.
  • Assess architectural impacts on business rules, processes and functionalities within an established portfolio/roadmap of projects.
  • Research and identify industry technology best practices and their relevance to IT systems and corporate practices to inform decisions.
  • Collaborate with teams to support decisions related to business systems selection.
  • Develop effective working relationships with IT members, leadership, business units and staff.
  • Design corporate data models used by the Enterprise to align data definitions across multiple databases.
  • Work with Subject Matter Expert architect to absorb institutional knowledge.
  • Guide solutions and integration efforts across field services, control centres, and mobile workforce systems which can are handed to Solution Architects to lead.
  • Mentor and support technical teams, ensuring alignment with architecture principles and business goals.
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Extensive expertise in architectural design within cloud/on-premise hybrid environments.
  • Proven ability to design technical solutions that align with business requirements while adhering to established technical standards.
  • Solid business acumen and capability to make decisions that manage risk and uncertainty while maintaining consistency with corporate values. 
  • Thorough understanding of IT governance frameworks and Service Management processes, including ITIL service management and COBIT control framework.
  • Knowledge of IEC CIM standards and integration frameworks.
  • Proven ability to work with and lead cross-functional teams; this includes effective leadership and mentoring skills, and the ability to facilitate collaboration with senior technical and business team members and external vendors and technical teams.
  • Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate and present complex issues to various audiences. 
  • Solid knowledge of software configuration, development and computer technology, along with an  understanding of programming language, operation systems and leveraging software application functionality.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and evaluating possible solutions.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of end-to-end solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex implementations and reengineer business processes.
  • Knowledge of Architectural modeling tools. 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Software Engineering plus a minimum of 10 years of IS/IT experience developing and maintaining IT solutions and direct architect experience in ERP solutions with a combination of technical, data, solution and enterprise architecture. Within those ten years, experience in or with the following is required:
    • Managing diverse teams, either directly or indirectly.
    • System modeling methods and frameworks, such as TOGAF certification, utilized in designing IT system solutions, including data flow, entity relationships, process workflow and use case diagrams.
    • Architectural governance practices.
    • Applying structured software development and system architecture methodologies in IT solutions design and implementation.
    • Data reporting and analytics.
    • Developing and sustaining roadmaps.
    • Project delivery.
    • Establishing standard and best practices across an organization.
  • An equivalent blend of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Experience in any of the following processes is considered an asset:
    • Schneider-Electric ADMS, specifically OMS, SCADA, and DERMS.
    • Esri Utility Network
    • Meter to Cash, Linear assets, Asset lifecycle, Finance, Warehousing, Multiple order types, including Work, Service, Trouble and Maintenance.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would also be considered an asset.
