DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of the Manager Quality Assurance Solutions, the Quality Assurance (QA) Tester will assist in implementing test plans to ensure the usability and quality of our systems. 

This role will meticulously test software for defects and functionality issues, document testing progress, defects and collaborate with the project team to resolve issues. 

 

The QA Tester will take part in the software development lifecycle by participating in various project meetings such as project planning sessions, requirements, and testing workshops, and project retrospectives. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Execution of the test plan:
   o    Work with the Project Team to develop, document and maintain test cases and other test artifacts.
   o    Ensure that test cases are created and validated to meet requirements and design specifications.
          Generate requirements traceability matrix (RTM).
   o    Facilitate test case reviews with cross-functional team members.
   o    Execute test cases to identify defects, issues or enhancements.
          Identify potential quality issues and triage accordingly.
   o    Monitor and manage defects through their lifecycle from discovery to resolution.
   o    Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Test Leads, Developers, and Business Subject Matter Expert’s (SMEs) to ensure clear communication and understanding of testing requirements.
   o    Review and act upon user feedback.
   o    Assist with the creation and maintenance of comprehensive test documentation such as test results summary and defect reports.

•    Administration and provisioning of the OpenText Application Lifecycle Management Quality Centre (QC) Tool:
   o    Create and setup project libraries and domains.
   o    Manage and support new and existing users.
   o    Create QC test plans and labs.
   o    Create required reports.
   o    Resolve support tickets in Ivanti as it relates to Quality Centre.

•    Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC).
•    Ability to collaborate within a team environment and support team success.
•    Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
•    Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders. 
•    Demonstrated ability to think logically and analyze application and business process requirements with respect to testing and quality assurance.
•    Ability to deploy a structured approach to problem solving and work practices.
•    Knowledge and experience in technical aspects of software solution testing.
•    Ability to work independently.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    A Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related subject plus a minimum of three (3) of experience in IT Operations and Projects is required, including  
a minimum of one (1) of experience as a Quality Assurance Analyst is required.  
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    Testing certifications from an accredited institution or organization such as credentials through the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ITSQB) would be considered assets.   


Special Conditions:  
•    A valid Alberta driver’s license in good standing.  
•    Routine travel may be required in order to provide support to various FortisAlberta locations.
