FortisAlberta is seeking a Regulatory Finance Advisor to join our Regulatory Finance team and help shape the future of our regulatory strategy and financial performance. In this role, you will build and maintain regulatory models, support financial forecasting and reporting, and assist in providing analytical horsepower to influence decisions at the highest level.

  • Maintain and enhance the revenue requirement model, incorporating inputs from multiple functional areas and complex regulatory computations.
  • Prepare monthly revenue accruals and forecasts in alignment with regulatory parameters and applicable accounting standards.
  • Provide internal reporting on corporate results, including detailed variance analysis, and support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles.
  • Support regulatory filings by assisting with the compilation analysis and interpretation of financial data, including drafting financial sections of AUC submissions.
  • Assist with the research, preparation, and review of Information Requests from the AUC and intervenors to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment across departments.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and provide input towards the assessment of financial impact.
  • Assist in completing the revenue component of financial forecasts and business plans, integrating regulatory and technical accounting considerations.
  • Support process improvements by identifying gaps in data quality, enhancing tools, and collaborating with crossfunctional teams.
  • Special projects and related duties as assigned. 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Commerce or Business Administration, plus at least five years of related experience; CPA designation required. An equivalent amount of education with practical experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS, with the ability to apply accounting principles in a regulated utility context.
  • Experience with SAP, utility ratemaking principles, or work in a regulated industry is considered an asset.
  • Advanced analytical skills with experience in financial reporting, technical accounting, and complex modeling.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships through technical credibility and business insight.
  • High attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in staying current with changes in regulatory and accounting environments, translating complex developments into clear, actionable insights that support sound business decisions.

 

 

Important Information

  • Permanent, full-time role.
  • Located at our Calgary office on 17th ave.
  • Position will be moving to our Airdrie location in 2027.
  • Monday – Friday schedule.
  • Hybrid role, Mondays and Fridays work from home.
