DESCRIPTION

 

FortisAlberta is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic regulatory professional to fill the role of Regulatory Revenue Advisor.  As part of the Regulatory Finance team, and under the general direction of the Manager, Utility Rates & Revenue, the Regulatory Revenue Advisor will provide the necessary technical expertise to prepare the Company’s revenue forecasts.  This involves compiling data and applying expertise to forecasting processes, analyses, and reporting, as well as contributing to various regulatory proceedings as needed.  In addition, the Regulatory Revenue Advisor will assist in the development of the Company’s revenue requirement and corporate earnings forecast.  

The Regulatory Revenue Advisor is expected to possess exceptional analytical capabilities and will be relied upon by the Manager to suggest improvements to current methods used by the Company to forecast revenue.  This role will also be involved with various regulatory initiatives and will need to work closely with others in the Company to establish reasonable forecast assumptions, justify the forecast with the industry’s regulator, and assess actual performance.  

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Maintain and update a complex revenue forecast model that incorporates customer, load, energy, and demand forecasts with a variety of dependent and independent variables, including the collection of customer and electric load data from a variety of internal sources
  • Complete monthly accruals and forecasts
  • Provide internal reporting on corporate results, including detailed variance analysis and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycle for accounting, financial planning, and other management requirements
  • Support Senior Regulatory Finance Advisors by compiling, analyzing, and interpreting financial data during regulatory proceedings
  • Maintain revenue forecast models in accordance with utility rate-making regulation
  • Working with cross-functional teams, contribute to the written portion of regulatory proceedings and reports to senior management and/or the board
  • Assist with the interpretation and application of Electric Utilities Act and Regulations, and of decisions from regulatory authorities
    Special projects and other duties, as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated quantitative and financial analysis skills with an understanding of statistical methods (e.g., regression techniques), economic principles and finance
  • Manage multiple priorities with competing demands and lean on your exceptional organizational, time management, research/information gathering and attention to detail skills to succeed 
  • Advanced level of proficiency with MS Excel for data analysis and modeling, as well as an interest in econometric modeling and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare written materials, including reports, briefing notes, background, and other documents for senior management and/or regulatory proceedings 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential material and appropriately communicate with respect to such information

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in economics, commerce/business administration, mathematics, statistics, or engineering plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience communicating complex, detailed concepts widely to differing audiences in a concise, compelling manner verbally, in writing and graphic formats
  • Experience working with SAP or similar information system
  • Experience in modeling and data analysis
  • Experience working with SQL, VBA and Power BI would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated business environment, preferably within the electric utility industry, would be an asset.
