DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of the Director Internal Audit Risk and Compliance and reporting to the Compliance and Privacy Officer, the Senior Compliance, Sustainability and Risk Advisor supports and advises on FortisAlberta’s compliance requirements, sustainability governance and strategy, and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities of the Company.  This role plays a critical role in ensuring that FortisAlberta maintains the highest standards of compliance, sustainability governance, and risk management practices.  

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE (but not limited to):

 

Compliance
•    Maintain awareness of current and emergent trends and development of compliance related legislation, industry best practices and internal policies, standards and guidelines.
•    Collect relevant data related to compliance metrics and generate reports and dashboards for program performance evaluation.
•    Develop compliance framework to monitor requirements for compliance with relevant laws, regulations, policies and standards.
•    Lead the policy management framework to ensure development, maintenance and updates of company policies as needed.
•    Develop and maintain compliance eLearning modules while effectively managing training completions logs and escalations.
•    Manage Privacy related inquiries and incidents as required.

 

Sustainability Governance
•    Collaborate with key stakeholders to support and advise on a Sustainability reporting framework and governance practice.
•    Collaborate with the business on internal and external sustainability data collection points, ensuring data validation and accuracy.
•    Lead efforts in documenting and updating Internal Controls over Sustainability Reporting (ICSR) processes and key controls.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability principles into business operations.
•    Actively participate in internal Sustainability reporting and performance initiatives within the Company.
•    Monitor and review the Company’s Sustainability KPIs to identify and resolve non-compliance with policies and applicable regulations. 

 

Enterprise Risk Management 
•    Develop, maintain and update compliance and enterprise risk management training materials, supporting risk management training sessions as needed.
•    Develop, identify and assess risk mitigation activities, reporting key risks to support compliance and enterprise risk management. 
•    Develop risk related reports at a level commensurate with Board quality standards.

 

General 
•    Stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
•    Assist in business development activities and presentations in the areas of Compliance, ERM and Sustainability as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Thorough understanding of applicable governance and risk management standards, and excellent grasp of risk management principles, tools and methods.
•    Solid understanding of privacy and data protection laws, regulations, and standards 
•    Ability to interpret and apply compliance, sustainability and ERM reporting frameworks, protocols and standards 
•    Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings. 
•    Experience facilitating conversations to build consensus, formulate strategies and recommendations.
•    Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders. 
•    Strong analytical and negotiation skills to resolve issues, evaluate possible solutions and risks, and gain consensus. This includes the ability to resolve problems, recognize opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and practices.
•    A drive for results, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute with excellence on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
•    Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret information from various sources, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
•    Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint) and a familiarity with SAP. Experience with Data Analytics would be an asset.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 
•    Degree in Commerce, Finance, Environmental Sciences or related discipline plus a minimum of 7 years of directly related experience; an equivalent combination of education, relevant experience and professional qualifications may be considered. 
•    Experience in leading projects would be an asset. 
•    Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
