DESCRIPTION: 
Under the general direction of the Supervisor IT Corporate Solutions, the Sr Systems Specialist – SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) will primarily be responsible for participating in the effective delivery of Information Technology business systems that are in alignment with the business objectives of the Operations area of FortisAlberta. This is a hands-on working role in which the incumbent completes all work required to improve and support the applications.  This position is responsible for day to day break-fix and enhancement activities reported or requested by our business users. This includes support of asset management systems used by our operations and facilities teams. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help in the identification, communication, and resolution of systems issues to maximize the benefit of IT services to FortisAlberta.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Manage application development and maintenance for one or more business operations or support functions including: defining business need, analysis of alternatives, solution recommendation, and solution implementation.
•    Develop, enhance, and support application interfaces.
•    Provide technical guidance for application development and maintenance for one or more business operations or support functions including:  defining business needs, analysis of alternatives, solution recommendation, and solution implementation.
•    Provide direction as a solution architect for projects, including working with the project manager to bring teams together within and outside of IT to validate technical requirements, to coordinate creation and execution of solution design, and to coordinate creation and execution of project implementation throughout all environments.
•    Work with other solution architects to improve our solution architecture practices and project quality.
•    Create technical specifications for all development and configuration work.
•    Establish effective communication with end-users.
•    Develop test strategies, coordinate, and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modifications to the existing systems or resolution of product issues.
•    Analyze day-to-day functions and processes of software and database resources to ensure they are performing within predetermined guidelines, limits, and specifications; provide status reports and analysis documents as needed.
•    Ensure appropriate response to and correction of production problems in a timely manner to meet defined service levels and guarantee compliance with industry deadlines.  Follow up to investigate and address root cause.  
•    Provide on-call technical support if required.
•    Accurately update our support ticketing system to reflect work progress and completed tasks. 
•    Use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all appropriate sources for answers; can see hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers; considers the business benefit in all solution design.  
•    Provide accurate estimates of effort and difficulty of development and configuration tasks.
•    Break down work into tasks with clearly defined due dates.
•    Assist other areas of IT and the business as required. 
•    Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of SAP development efforts.
•    Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
•    Special projects and other duties, as assigned. 
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
•    Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders. 
•    Demonstrated ability to build solid partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes.
•    Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and evaluating possible solutions.    
•    Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.  
•    Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). 
•    Demonstrated experience with working in SAP ERP 6.0.
•    Experience with Serialized Equipment, Supply Chain functionality, MRP, and External Service Procurement would be considered an asset.
•    Ability to read ABAP code and some programming experience would be considered an asset.
•    Experience with integrated GIS (Graphical Information Systems) would be considered an asset.
•    Experience with compatible unit functionality would be considered an asset.


 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    A Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related subject plus a minimum of 7 years’ experience doing systems analysis, design, and development with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) and SAP Integration modules
•    A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a solution architect or technical lead on medium or large projects.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    A minimum of 1-year systems analysis, design, and development with SAP Materials Management (MM)
•    A minimum of 1-year systems analysis, design, and development with SAP Sales & Distribution (SD) 
•    A minimum of 1-year systems analysis, design, and development with SAP Logistics Execution module (LE)

 

Special Conditions:  
•    Participation in a 24 hour on-call support rotation is required.
