DESCRIPTION: 

 

Reporting to the Manager, Emerging Customer Solutions (ECS), the Senior Advisor will develop and implement customer solutions programs, including but not limited to initiatives related to advance grid optimization including Demand Side Management within the electric distribution system. As a Senior Advisor, you are a forward-thinking and self-motivated professional who identifies and evaluates growth opportunities, leveraging customer insights and trends. As a collaborative team player, you work closely with the ECS team to lead initiatives that drive innovation and growth, and help to position FortisAlberta as a trusted advisor. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to): 

 

  • Develop, promote and implement customer programs that will optimize the grid and assist consumers in managing their energy use. .   
  • Support government engagement efforts by developing strategies, key messaging, and briefing documents on grid optimization and programs such as Demand Side Management, Virtual Power Plants, and Battery Energy Storage Systems. 
  • Collaborate with ECS team members and across departments to build a positive customer experience and high levels of satisfaction for new customer programs. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with governments, trade associations, industry coalitions, public services, and other authorities to influence policies and positions. 
  • Participate and represent FortisAlberta in industry forums to collaborate with external stakeholders to advance policy goals and innovative customer solutions.  
  • Develop and engage a community and customer network to foster emerging solutions within distribution utilities. 
  • Assess and research exploratory opportunities for growth and new opportunities with high sensitivity to confidential information.  
  • Lead the development of commercial business cases, briefing documents and white papers. 
  • Lead programs within the Emerging Customer Solutions team ensuring they meet company objectives and key metrics, including Save Energy grants and employee engagement initiatives and platforms. 
  • Monitor and analyze policy and legislative trends, and participate in engagements, including Alberta Electric System Operator and Alberta Utilities Commission. 
  • Responsible for overseeing the external funding opportunities including writing and editing grant applications 
  • Develop new initiatives within ECS as assigned 
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Commerce, Public Policy, Public Relations, Science, or related discipline, plus a minimum 7 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing change 
  • 3 years’ experience developing customer programs including program design, achieving high levels of customer satisfaction 
  • Experience representing industries and speaking at industry forums is required 
  • Experience writing grant applications and business cases for various audiences and stakeholders is required. 
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be considered an asset. 
  • Experience in Strategic Account Management would be considered an asset.  
  • IAP2 certification would be considered an asset 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS: 

 

  • Valid Class 5 drivers permit is required 

  • Occasional evening and overnight travel is a requirement of this position
