DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Grid and Ops Technology Solutions, the Supervisor, GIS & Mobile Workforce Management (MWFM) Solutions is primarily responsible for the supervision and performance of a team of information technology professionals who support Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Mobile Workforce Management (MWFM) platforms. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality support services, system reliability, and the continuous improvement of processes, practices, and technology. This includes overseeing staff development and performance management. This position will assist in setting and managing team objectives, tracking performance metrics, supporting budgets and analyzing and reporting statistics to reach departmental goals. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

Leadership:

  • Lead, manage, coach and motivate employees; this includes providing direction, expertise and advice to employees, identifying employee training requirements, and formally managing the performance of employees 
  • Work closely with Human Resources to manage all elements of employee relations, including hiring, terminations, training, performance appraisals for the employee file, administering progressive discipline, and resolving labour relations issues and/or grievances.
  • Motivate and inspire team members through recognition and celebration of accomplishments and/or contributions.

 

Operations and Project Support:

  • Assist in the development and management of team goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and budgets and analyze and report on statistics to achieve departmental goals.
  • Provide technical guidance for application development and support including defining business needs, analysis of alternatives, and solution recommendations.
  • Provide technical direction for initiatives and projects including system impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and implementation planning and deployment.
  • Ensure appropriate response to and correction of production problems by acting as an escalation point and managing incident communications and follow-up root-cause investigations.
  • Drive a customer-focused culture by ensuring support services meet or exceed stakeholder expectations.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness of existing practices, processes, and systems and lead improvements such as developing automations, optimizations and innovative strategies, while ensuring systems accommodate future policies, practices, and business capability requirements.
  • Research emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of system development and sustainment efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with business units, project managers, and other IT teams to ensure alignment of GIS and MWFM solutions with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors to ensure efficient support of systems and timely resolution of critical issues.  
  • Work with internal stakeholders to maintain and enhance team standards and processes and improve the consistency of change management.
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned.

  • Familiar with system development, lifecycle processes and methodologies such as project management, analysis/design, testing, and implementation planning/deployments.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines, while being flexible and open to change.
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point); familiarity with SAP would be an asset.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree or diploma in GIS, Geomatics or Computer Science, plus a minimum of 7 years of experience focused on Geographic Information Systems solutions, including the support of integrated systems; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Work experience with or deep understanding of the following technology:
    • GIS technology is required including, but not limited to, the Esri technology suite, and FME data integration platform.
    • SQL Server database system is required.
    • Object oriented programming/scripting languages. C# .Net, PowerShell and Python is an asset.
    • Mobile workforce management tools. EpochSG product experience is an asset.
    • ESRI Utility Network (UN) knowledge and experience considered is an asset.
  • Leadership experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be considered an asset.
