FortisAlberta is looking for a dedicated and safety‑driven Journeyman Power Line Technician to help build, maintain, and operate our electric distribution system. In this hands‑on role, you’ll work both independently and as part of a highly skilled team to keep power flowing safely and reliably to our customers across Alberta.

Job Description
- Work safely and in full compliance with all safety regulations, procedures, hazard assessments, and site work plans.
- Construct, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot the overhead and underground electric distribution system.
- Perform live line work, switching operations (radial, system, substation), and draft required switching plans.
- Complete construction readiness activities including first calls, planned power outages, scheduling contractors, and related checklists.
- Execute distribution operations including service investigation orders, trouble calls, pre‑route planning, and escorting over‑dimensional loads.
- Provide quick and courteous customer service during trouble calls or power interruptions.
- Mentor apprentices and contribute to team skill development.
- Participate in standby rotation and support special projects and other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
- A journeyman power line technician certificate is required.
- A valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.
Important:
- Permanent, full-time role.
- Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Based out of Edson Alberta.
- Business needs dictate that you must live within fifty (50) kilometers of the assigned service point office or a distance that allows a maximum forty (40) minute response time to the assigned service point office.
- Participation in after-hours and weekend standby rotation is required.
- Traveling away from home overnight may be required.
- A practical evaluation will be a part of the interview process.
- All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.
- This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
