TITLE: 6 month Temporary Labourer - S Construction Crew (U25-013) 
DEPARTMENT: Field Operations  
WORK LOCATION/OFFICE:  High River                                                               
STATUS: 30 Temp - Hourly  
NUMBER OF HIRES: 1                  

                

DESCRIPTION:  
Reporting to the Supervisor Field Operations and under the general supervision of the Crew Lead, the Labourer will assist the local crews as required. Under the guidance of Journeymen and Apprentice Power Line Technicians, the Labourers will assist in construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Assist with building, repairing, and maintaining overhead power lines and electrical distribution equipment; this includes climbing poles.
•    Complete tasks and follow instructions from Journeyman Power Line Technicians, Crew Lead, and Supervisor Field Operations.
•    Learn and follow safety regulations and procedures.
•    Learn the basics of operating large equipment such as radial arm digger trucks, bucket trucks and other related equipment of the trade (including service trucks).
•    Operation of hand tools and computer programs.
•    Respond to customer calls with Journeymen Power Line Technicians.
•    Other duties, projects, and assignments as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
•    Good teamwork skills; this includes team building and working as part of a team, and an ability to work under limited direction.
•    Capable of working outdoors, year-round, in a highly physical capacity.
•    Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    A completed High School diploma, including completion of grade 12 math and grade 12 English is required.
    o    In lieu of grade 12 math, completion of a recognized math course as part of a compulsory trade apprenticeship or journeyman program may be considered. 
•    A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    A valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
•    Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.

 

Special Conditions: 
•    There is a requirement to work with both operations and construction crews.
•    Travel away from home (overnight) will be required.
•    The successful candidate will be required to produce a copy of their High School transcript, high school diploma or trade certificate, a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.
•    This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
•    Candidates may be required to participate in a weekend evaluation at our Employee Development Centre in Red Deer in March 2025.
•    Successful candidates will be required to complete four days of training at our Employee Development Centre in Red Deer.
