FortisAlberta is seeking a proactive and safety‑focused Corporate Health & Safety Specialist to help strengthen and continuously improve our corporate safety program.

In this role, you will lead incident investigations, support compliance initiatives, provide expert safety guidance, and work closely with leaders and employees across the organization to promote a strong safety culture.

Job Description:

• Lead incident investigations using established methodologies, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
• Conduct scheduled and random worksite inspections to identify risks, ensure compliance, and promote safe work practices.
• Provide technical expertise on hazard identification, risk mitigation, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Interpret and apply applicable regulations, standards, and codes to support compliance and continuous improvement.
• Conduct audits of processes, worksites, and contractors to verify compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
• Develop corrective action plans and provide coaching and support to supervisors and managers.
• Maintain and improve safety management system documentation, including procedures, hazard assessments, forms, and standards.
• Support emergency response planning, Certificate of Recognition audit activities, and safety compliance programs.
• Develop and deliver safety training, awareness campaigns, safety communications, and educational materials.
• Collaborate with departments across the organization to strengthen safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.

 Qualifications:

• Health and Safety diploma plus a minimum of three years of related safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certified Safety Professional designation or equivalent certification (or CRSP, CRST, CSO, NCSO, etc.) is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, safety management systems, incident investigation, and hazard mitigation practices.
• Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action planning.
• Experience resolving safety related concerns independently in field environments.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills with the ability to influence and support diverse stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power BI.
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence.
• Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, is considered an asset.

• Permanent, full-time role.
• Monday – Friday schedule.
• Based out of our Spruce Grove or Airdrie Kingsview locations.
• This is a unionized role and the successful applicant will be required to become a union member on hire if they are not one already.
• Current driver's abstract and criminal background check required.
