DESCRIPTION: 
Reporting to the Manager Travelling Crews the Journeyman Power Line Technician – Construction is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system. This position will be working with the Construction crew.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Working safely in accordance with safety practice regulations and procedures.

•    Constructing and maintaining the electric distribution system (both overhead and underground).
•    Performing live line work.
•    Drafting switching plans and perform switching.
•    Performing power line inspection patrols.
•    Providing quick and courteous customer service for trouble calls or power interruptions.
•    Mentoring apprentices and other team members.
•    Special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment as well as working independently as an individual contributor.

•    Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal customers and team members; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
•    Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous projects and competing demands.
•    Demonstrated commitment to promoting and applying safe work practices through leading by example.
•    Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.)

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Must have a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician ticket certificate.

•    Must have an Alberta Motor Vehicle class 3 driver’s license with an air endorsement.
 
SPECIAL CONDISTIONS: 
•    The Construction crew operates on an eight (8) consecutive day, ten (10) hours a day work schedule, Tuesday through the following Tuesday followed by six days off, with a 7 a.m. start time. Alternatively, the crew will work a four (4) day a week, ten (10) hour a day schedule Monday through Thursday with every Friday off, with a 7 a.m. start time. Travel outside the service point office and overnight stays will be required.
•    This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
•    Successful candidates who are working away from their primary residence will be compensated for their meals and accommodations per the current Collective Agreement.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
•    Successful candidates will not be required to live within fifty (50) kilometers of the service point office or a distance that allows a maximum forty (40) minute response time to the service point office. •    Successful candidates will be compensated for overtime and mileage when travelling between their primary residence and the service point office per the current Collective Agreement.  
•    Successful candidates will not be required to participate in after hours and weekend standby rotation.
