DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Supervisor Yard Operations, the Yard Operator is primarily responsible for the general warehousing functions at multiple district storage locations in the area.  This includes receiving and issuing materials, preparing materials for project work orders, performing inventory spot checks, coordinating with leaders, and maintaining the cleanliness, organization and safety of the storage locations. 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
•    Receive materials from the Acheson Service Centre and vendors ensuring orders received are in accordance with purchase order and quality standards.
•    Maintain standards for recycled and salvaged materials and coordinate their return to the Acheson Service Centre.
•    Deliver materials to work sites as required.
•    Operate material handling equipment (i.e. forklifts, pallet jack) safely to load and unload trucks;
•    Maintain inventory items; identify inventory discrepancies and implement corrective action.
•    Prepare and complete inventory counts and annual audits in accordance with FortisAlberta policies and procedures.
•    Accountable to follow all safe work practices. 
•    Review Contractor Lay down sites with Area Coordinator and Contractors to ensure material is ready for pickup
•    Complete the small tool repair process.
•    Perform as a District Storage Location (DSL) resource and contact for the local staff, contractors, Acheson Service Centre and Procurement Department.
•    Organize materials for projects and stores in an efficient manner to facilitate effective picking of materials by the construction and operations crews.
•    Process returns as required; this includes putting materials away in the local storage location or tagging the return as salvage or scrap; Set up Salvage Material crates and ensure material is put back in DSL inventory when applicable
•    Ensure accurate supply of inventory in the district storage location and order materials when applicable
•    Manage all waste (i.e. hazardous and non-hazardous) in accordance with FortisAlberta policies and procedures;
•    Perform minor repairs or facilitate repair of storage locations to maintain its good working condition; storage locations include buildings, docks and racks.
•    Perform or facilitate snow removal within the materials and docks as required.
•    Perform all transactions and updates of material required in SAP.
•    Complete weekly inventory counts for each District Storage Location 
•    Maintain monthly environmental, safety, vehicle and/or building fire extinguishers, and yard inspections.
•    Regular travel to two (2) or more District Storage Locations and field material sites as required; and 
•    Special projects and other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
•    Physically capable of lifting heavy objects up to 35 kg.
•    Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
•    Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with field crews and team members; this includes good communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision; this includes strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
•    Good working knowledge in SAP, Microsoft Office and other desktop applications.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    A High School Diploma is required.
•    Must hold a valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Class 5 Driver’s License.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    A Forklift Operator Training certification  would be considered a definite asset.
•    A certification of TDG, WHMIS and/or Quality Assurance,  would be considered an asset.
•    A Supply Chain Management Association Diploma or Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is considered an asset 
•    One (1) year of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or supply chain role within FortisAlberta would be considered an asset.
•    Experience in the electrical utility industry would be considered an asset.


Special Conditions:  
•    All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract. 
•    After hours and weekend work may be required for special projects and restoration.
•    Travel away from home overnight to other service locations throughout the province may be required.
•    This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
•    This position is required to work alone at times. 
•    Duties include inside and outside work in all weather conditions.
